Heidi Nelson

Heidi Nelson (1960-) is the youngest child of seven and the fifth daughter of Willard and Verda Nelson. She was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Heidi is a graduate of Highland High School. After graduation, she attended the University of Utah but interrupted her studies to fill a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Seville, Spain. She was proposed to and married shortly after finishing her mission. She had met her husband, John Jenkins, in seventh-grade math at Hillside Junior High and dated him sporadically through high school.

John and Heidi lived in the Bay Area from 1983 to 2000, where John completed graduate work at the University of California, Berkeley and started a career at Apple Inc. In June 2000, they moved back to Salt Lake to be closer to family and give their children a chance to grow up knowing their grandparents.

Heidi is blessed with a number of talents. Over the years, she has helped support her family by teaching piano and doing freelance calligraphy. She is currently in the process of setting up a home jewelry business, Jewelry by Jenkins, and a graphic arts company, Text by Design. In her work on Text by Design, she has as a partner her childhood friend, Laura Talbot of Colorado Springs. Fortunately, modern technology makes it possible for them to do business despite the distance between them.
